AWGU LGA CHAIRMAN PRESENTS 2025 BUDGET OF ₦8.1 BILLION FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC GROWTH

In a bold move to drive grassroots development and economic growth, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has presented the council’s 2025 fiscal budget, themed “Budget for Sustainable Economic Growth.” The presentation, which took place on December 10, 2024, at the Council Chambers, was attended by a diverse gathering of stakeholders, including members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, traditional rulers, government officials, councillors, and community leaders.

In his address, Hon. Okolo expressed his profound gratitude to the people of Awgu for their trust and support for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and his administration. He also thanked the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, for his guidance and pledged to deliver inclusive and people-focused governance. The chairman’s speech was a testament to his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.

The ₦8.1 billion budget is a comprehensive plan that prioritizes the needs of the people of Awgu. The allocation breakdown is as follows: ₦2.35 billion (29%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦5.76 billion (71%) for capital projects. The revenue projections include federal allocation, VAT, excess crude funds, and internally generated revenue (IGR). This budget is a clear indication of the chairman’s vision for sustainable economic growth and development.

Hon. Okolo highlighted the key objectives of the budget, which include intensifying efforts to boost IGR, completing ongoing projects, empowering youths, artisans, farmers, and market women, improving healthcare and education, and massive infrastructural development. Some of the priority projects outlined in the budget include the construction of a new Chairman’s office, development of commercial centers and motor parks, and the provision of better learning environments for primary schools across the LGA.

The chairman emphasized the importance of collaboration with the legislative council and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the budget. He assured the constituents of a transparent and accountable administration focused on improving their lives. The event concluded with commendations from stakeholders, who lauded the chairman’s vision for sustainable development and pledged their support for the successful implementation of the budget.

The presentation of the 2025 budget is a significant milestone in the administration of Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo.
