The Honorable Commissioner for Health in Enugu State, Assoc. Prof. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, has urged the National Health Fellows to strive for excellence in healthcare delivery. This call was made during the formal welcoming ceremony of the 17 National Health Fellows drawn from across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
Commissioner Obi congratulated the newly inaugurated National Health Fellows and encouraged them to seek knowledge, collaborate with stakeholders, and be proactive in finding solutions to the challenges within the healthcare system. He reminded the fellows that they will not only impact lives today but also lay the foundation for a healthier and more prosperous Enugu State.
The Enugu State Government assured the fellows of its full support, promising to provide an enabling environment for them to excel, learn, and make meaningful contributions to the health sector. The administration is committed to strengthening the health infrastructure, ensuring access to quality healthcare, and fostering partnerships that will drive sustainable health outcomes.
Earlier in his speech, the Director of Public Health and Disease Control in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Uchechukwu Okenwa Joel, who is also a mentor to the National Health Fellows, expressed the mentors’ eagerness to support the fellows in applying their skills and expertise to enhance the healthcare system. He emphasized the critical role the fellows will play in shaping the future of healthcare in Enugu State and beyond.
In response, Mr. Okoh Charles from Oji-River LGA spoke on behalf of the other National Health Fellows, thanking the Honorable Commissioner and his team for their kind gestures and hospitality. He acknowledged that the National Health Fellows programme is a commendable initiative by the Federal Government aimed at fostering innovation, leadership, and excellence in the health sector. He promised their loyalty and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for absorbing them into the Federal Ministry of Health, stating that Enugu State is honored to be part of this transformative journey.
