Former IGP Mohammed Adamu Throws Hat into Nasarawa Governorship Race

In a significant development in the build-up to the 2027 general elections, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has formally announced his intention to contest for the Nasarawa State governorship under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adamu, who led the Nigeria Police Force from 2019 to 2021 during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, made his intentions known at a meeting with members of the APC State Working Committee in Lafia. According to him, his decision to join the race is in response to a “clarion call” from the people of Nasarawa, who trust in his leadership abilities and experience.

Adamu vowed to run an inclusive and people-centered government if given the mandate. “I am answering the call of my people who believe I can serve and move Nasarawa forward,” he said. “My administration, by the grace of God, will be inclusive, transparent, and focused on delivering tangible development across all sectors.”

Adamu’s entrance into the race adds further momentum to an already crowded field of contenders seeking to succeed Governor Abdullahi Sule, who is currently serving his second term under the APC banner. The former IGP’s decision to join the fray is expected to bring a new dynamic to the election, given his experience and reputation.

As the 2027 governorship election approaches, all eyes will be on the aspirants, including Adamu, as they make their cases to the people of Nasarawa. With his track record and promise of inclusive governance, Adamu’s candidacy is one to watch in the coming months.
