A devastating incident occurred on May 3, 2025, when a group of Capuchin Friars from the Ridgeway Community in Enugu State embarked on a trip to Obudu, Cross River State. Unfortunately, their journey ended in tragedy when their vehicle was involved in a fatal accident.
According to a statement released by the Capuchin Friars of Nigerian Custody, 7 brothers lost their lives in the accident, while 6 others sustained various degrees of injuries. The injured friars have been transferred to the hospital for proper medical treatment.

The Capuchin Friars have entrusted the souls of the deceased to the merciful love of God and invited all to join them in praying for the happy repose of their souls. Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
In the statement, Br. John-Kennedy Anyanwu, OFM Cap, Custos, prayed, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.”
