NESREA DG RECEIVES DELEGATION FROM FLEMING FUND PROJECT ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE

The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof. Innocent Barikor on Monday received a team from Fleming Fund, Mott Macdonald and the Management Sciences for Health.

The delegation, led by Regional Director Adjo Mfodwo, was on a monitoring visit to assess the implementation level of the Fleming Fund Phase 2 Country Grant Project in Nigeria.

The project supports the Nigerian Government’s National Action Plan version 2 on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), which NESREA is implementing at its National Environmental Reference Laboratory in Port Harcourt.

Welcoming the delegation, the NESREA Boss, Prof. Innocent Barikor highlighted the activities carried out under the project including the provision of laboratory equipment, installation of 30Kva solar power system, AMR Surveillance to hotspots within the Port Harcourt metropolis and training of laboratory officers on AMR testing.

He noted the nexus between environment and health, which he said would enable informed health decisions through analysis of environmental data, adding that the project was already generating reliable data on AMR.

Prof. Barikor further disclosed that the Agency was looking forward to replicating the project in Lagos, Kano and Abuja.
