The initiative, which targets the distribution of 10,000 wrappers to 10,000 women in Enugu East Local Government Area, was flagged off on Tuesday at a colourful ceremony that drew dignitaries, women leaders, and community stakeholders.

Represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Barr. Chidimma Eguonu, the First Lady commended the Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Happiness Obi Anike, for their visionary leadership and genuine concern for women. She stressed that the initiative aligns perfectly with the Social Inclusion and Protection pillar of her Five-Point Developmental Agenda, which is committed to sustainable and inclusive social welfare.

In his remarks, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike explained that the gift of a wrapper represents far more than fabric. According to him, it is “a statement of solidarity, care, and empowerment, weaving a story of dignity and togetherness.”

The Convener of the programme and First Lady of Enugu East LGA, Dr. Mrs. Happiness Obi Anike, described the initiative as a demonstration of love, care, and inclusiveness. She highlighted the important role of women in both the family and society, encouraging them to continue standing tall in their responsibilities. Dr. Anike also praised her husband for his visionary leadership and expressed gratitude for providing her with the platform to execute this and other programmes aimed at uplifting women in the council area.

The event equally featured goodwill messages from notable personalities including the State Woman Leader of the PDP, Amb. Peace Patrick Nnaji; Member IV of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke; the SSA to the Governor on SDGs, Engr. Onyinye; and the SSA on Women Inclusion to the Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Mrs. Chinwe Ogbu. They all commended the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of leadership that aligns with the vision of the state government.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Engr. Kingsley Obi Anike; and the Honourable Commissioner for Gender Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Eni, among others.

With its promise to reach 10,000 women, the “One Woman, One Wrapper” initiative is widely regarded as a bold step toward strengthening social inclusion and empowering women in Enugu East LGA. It is also expected to leave a lasting impact on the lives of beneficiaries, further reinforcing the state’s commitment to building a more caring and inclusive society.
