Prof Nnamchi Led Adhoc Committee On NELFUND Concludes Hearing in Southeast

The House of Representatives Joint Adhoc Committees led by Hon. Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi has concluded its investigative hearing into the disbursement of Nigerian Education Loans Fund, (NEFUND) in the Southeast geopolitical zone.

The adhoc committee members were drawn from the committees on student loans, scholarship and higher education financing, Banking and other ancillary institutions, Anti Corruption and University Education.

Honourable Professor Nnamchi, the member representing Enugu East Isi Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives had in his opening remarks declared that the mandate of the committee was to investigate the allegations of infractions in the disbursement of the funds within beneficiary institutions.

The Enugu State born lawmaker who disclosed this at the premises of Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ( ESUT) during the southeast zonal investigative hearing further stressed that the committee would equally interrogate the operational process guiding the disbursement of the loan.

He further stated that his team was also mandated to examine compliance within the existing legal and ethical frameworks and recommend actionable solutions to ensure that the students’ scheme fulfilled the intended purpose transparently, fairly and efficiently.

“I must not fail to commend the NELFUND and the Nigerian student for embracing this transformative initiative of Mr President’s Renewed Hope agenda in the education sector.” Professor Nnamchi stressed, adding added that NELFUND had as at Wednesday 6th of August, 2025 disbursed a total sum of N86.4 billion in loans to 366,247 students across Federal and Stats’ tertiary institutions.

The team continues the investigative hearing in the south-South zone after which it will submit its findings to the House on resumption in the next two weeks.
