The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has emerged champions of the Governor Peter Mbah Inter-Campus Students Football Tournament 2025, after defeating their long-standing rivals, the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), in a thrilling final at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The highly competitive encounter kept spectators captivated from start to finish, as the Lions of Nsukka demonstrated outstanding teamwork, resilience, and tactical brilliance to secure the ₦1 million grand prize. The victory reinforces UNN’s dominance and the enduring Lion Spirit that defines its sporting heritage.
The grand finale attracted massive attendance from students, sports enthusiasts, and dignitaries across Enugu State. The event was a celebration of talent, unity, and the growing culture of youth engagement through sports, in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for youth development and empowerment.
The Director of Sports, NANS JCC Enugu, Comr. Ugwu Kingsley Chigozie, commended all participating institutions for their impressive performances and commitment to fair play, noting that the tournament has strengthened inter-campus relationships and encouraged healthy competition.
IMT received recognition as the gallant runners-up, while ESCOTECH clinched third place after overcoming SUMAS in the preceding fixture.
The atmosphere at the stadium was charged with excitement and pride as chants of victory echoed through the stands, a true reflection of the unity, passion, and sportsmanship among students in Enugu State.
