The development, disclosed by the Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, underscores ongoing efforts by the local government to address water scarcity and improve the living conditions of residents, particularly in rural areas where access to potable water has remained a persistent challenge.

The newly completed boreholes are located in Mgbowo, Obuofia Village in Ugwuleshi Autonomous Community (Awgu Town), Mgbidi, Nenwenta, Nkwe, and Ezere. Residents of the benefiting communities described the projects as impactful, noting that the availability of clean water has significantly reduced the burden of trekking long distances and reliance on unsafe water sources.

Community members who spoke during visits to the project sites expressed appreciation for the intervention, highlighting improvements in hygiene, sanitation, and overall wellbeing. Some residents also emphasized the importance of proper maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the facilities.

The milestone builds on an earlier phase of the initiative recorded in October 2025, when the Enugu State Governor, , through the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Chieftaincy Matters, oversaw the commissioning of 18 solar-powered boreholes executed within the chairman’s first year in office.

Speaking on the progress, Okolo stated that the initiative aligns with the state government’s development priorities, particularly in the water sector. He noted that his administration had set a target of delivering 25 solar-powered boreholes during the campaign period, adding that 24 have already been completed within one year and six months in office.

He further assured that efforts are underway to exceed the initial target, with plans to extend the initiative to more underserved communities in subsequent phases.

The solar-powered boreholes, designed for sustainability and efficiency, are expected to improve sanitation, reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents as the “Water for All” initiative continues to expand across Awgu Local Government Area.
