
Member representing Aninri, Awgu and Oji-River Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, on Friday, March 20, 2026, attended the burial ceremony of late Mrs. Monica Nnenna Nnaji, Mother of Hon. Pharm Nnolim Nnaji and Chief Uche Nnaji, in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Mrs. Nnaji, who passed away on January 6, 2026, at the age of 77, was laid to rest following a solemn funeral Mass held at St. Jude Catholic Church, Akpugo. The Mass was officiated by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Ernest Anezichukwu Obodo, who emphasized the transient nature of life and urged the faithful, especially leaders, to uphold the virtues of humility, service, and godliness exemplified by the deceased.




Speaking at the event, Hon. Onwuegbu, who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Lake Chad, extended his condolences to the Nnaji family, describing the late matriarch as a woman of admirable character and a pillar of strength to her family and community.



He noted that her life of selfless service and dedication to humanity would remain a lasting legacy, while offering prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul.



The burial ceremony attracted several high-profile personalities, including the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, who represented the state governor; former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi; Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma; and former senator, Chief Jim Nwobodo. Also present was Rear Admiral Alison Madueke (rtd), alongside serving and former lawmakers, political leaders, and stakeholders from across the country.


Other dignitaries in attendance included Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu, Rt. Hon. Offor Chukwuegbo, Hon. Ikeje Asogwa, and Chief Obi Carl Kamah, among others.


Hon. Onwuegbu was accompanied by a delegation of aides, including Chief Ideh; Engr. Ifeanyichukwu Chukwu (Oyi of Oyi); Hon. Michael Okaibe; Hon. Bonaventure; Hon. Onyekachi Nwafor; Hon. Favour Ofoma; Hon. Chief Chiedozie; and Hon. Obinna A. Okpara, his media aide.


The large turnout of dignitaries and sympathizers underscored the impact and respect Mrs. Nnaji commanded during her lifetime, as family, friends, and associates gathered to bid her a final farewell.
