The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to grassroots education development with the inspection and official reception of 11,000 Smart Green School uniforms for pupils across the council area.

The inspection, held Tuesday at the Smart Green School Fashion Hub in Enugu, represents a key milestone in the ongoing implementation of Enugu State Government’s education reform agenda under Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
The uniforms, produced under the Smart Green School initiative, are set for distribution to pupils across all 11 wards in Awgu, with each ward receiving 1,000 uniforms. The programme aims to enhance inclusive access to quality education while creating a modern, smart learning environment for young learners.
Okolo described the initiative as a transformative intervention that goes beyond education, highlighting its dual impact on economic empowerment and job creation. He noted that the Fashion Hub has become a crucial platform for engaging local talent, particularly young people and skilled artisans involved in the production process.
He expressed satisfaction with the scale and efficiency of operations at the facility, saying the workforce engagement reflects the administration’s commitment to combining educational development with economic growth.
The chairman commended Governor Mbah for a visionary approach to governance, emphasizing that the integration of education with enterprise development presents a sustainable model for long-term progress. He also reassured residents that the council would play an active role in complementing the initiative, citing ongoing construction of access roads to Smart Green Schools to improve accessibility and learning conditions for pupils.
The visit included a guided tour of the production facility, where Okolo interacted with workers and monitored the uniform production process. He assured that the distribution of uniforms would be conducted transparently and equitably to ensure all beneficiaries across the wards are reached without bias.
The Smart Green School initiative remains a flagship programme of the Enugu State Government, strategically designed to combine innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth within the education sector while simultaneously stimulating local economic development.
