The Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, has called on youths across Enugu State to support the re-election bid of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, citing the administration’s performance in key sectors.
Onoh made the appeal on Monday when the leadership of the Nkanu Youth Organization (NYO) paid him a courtesy visit at his office.
Addressing the delegation, the council chairman stressed the importance of youth participation in the political process, particularly as preparations for the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum. He urged young people to be deliberate in their choices, noting that leadership decisions made today would shape the state’s future.
He described Governor Mbah as a leader committed to the welfare and advancement of youths, pointing to improvements in security, infrastructure, and human capital development under the current administration.
“Our youths must begin to see themselves as critical stakeholders in the future of Enugu State,” Onoh said. “The decisions we make today will shape the opportunities available tomorrow. Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has shown through practical governance that leadership can truly serve the people, especially the younger population.”
He further urged youths not to be swayed by sentiments but to focus on continuity, stability, and sustained progress, emphasizing that supporting a leader who understands the needs of the people remains key to long-term development.
Onoh also commended the Nkanu Youth Organization for its efforts in mobilising and empowering youths within the Nkanu axis, describing the group’s activities as a reflection of purposeful leadership.
Responding, the National President of NYO, Pharmacist Gideon Nwafor, praised Onoh for his grassroots leadership, noting that his performance has strengthened governance at the local level.
Nwafor also informed the chairman of the group’s planned solidarity endorsement rally in support of Governor Mbah. He explained that the rally aims to bring together youths of Nkanu extraction in a show of unity and collective support for the governor.
“We are mobilising our youths across communities to take ownership of the political future of Nkanu and Enugu State at large,” he said. “This planned rally is not just about numbers, but about sending a clear message that the youths are ready to stand for what they believe in.”
He added that the organisation is seeking the support of key stakeholders, including Dr. Onoh, to ensure the success of the initiative and to reinforce the call for Governor Mbah to emerge as the preferred gubernatorial candidate from Nkanu in 2027.
The planned rally is expected to serve as a platform for youth engagement and political alignment ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.
