Norbert said the honour is reserved for leaders whose performance reflects measurable impact, accountability, and sustained engagement in their respective fields. He noted that the Forum operates across key South-East cities, including Abakaliki, Awka, Owerri, Umuahia, and Enugu.
According to the official citation, Nwigbo emerged as the regional award recipient based on what the committee termed “verifiable leadership impact,” particularly in advancing workers’ rights, improving welfare conditions, and maintaining constructive engagement with government authorities.
The citation also highlighted his role during periods of heightened insecurity, noting efforts to mobilise workers and draw attention to occupational risks. It added that his approach combined advocacy with institutional dialogue, contributing to progress in labour negotiations and industrial harmony.
The committee further acknowledged his collaboration with other labour bodies, including the Trade Union Congress (TUC), as well as his leadership style, described as inclusive and focused on teamwork and internal cohesion.
In his response, Nwigbo described the award as a recognition from a credible regional media body and dedicated it to workers in Enugu State, as well as stakeholders supporting labour activities.
“I will continue to speak and fight for the welfare and uplift of every worker in Enugu State,” he said, adding that the recognition would serve as motivation for further service.
The award underscores ongoing efforts within the labour movement in Enugu to address workers’ concerns amid prevailing economic and security challenges, reflecting the continued relevance of organised labour in regional governance and public discourse.
