
Awgu Local Government Area has ushered in a new era of leadership as Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo formally commenced his tenure as Executive Chairman on October 2, 2024. The day’s proceedings began on a solemn note with an uplifting opening prayer session led by Rev. Fr. Israel Chidi Obasi, Parish Priest of St. James Catholic Parish, Agbogugu.

Rev. Fr. Obasi fervently prayed for God’s divine wisdom and guidance to enable Chairman Okolo to lead Awgu with diligence and commitment, setting the tone for a tenure marked by purpose and dedication.

Chairman Okolo swiftly got to work, embarking on a comprehensive inspection tour of the administrative blocks and offices within the Council headquarters. He pledged to create a conducive working environment for local government personnel, ensuring optimal productivity and efficiency.


As part of his familiarization process, Hon. Okolo received strategic briefings from heads of security agencies in Awgu, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Forest Guards. This move demonstrates his unwavering commitment to enhancing security and fostering collaboration with relevant stakeholders.


Furthermore, the Executive Chairman held constructive meetings with key departmental heads, including the Head of the Department of Health, Awgu Local Government, and other staff members. These interactions aimed to acquaint him with the local government’s operations, challenges, and areas requiring immediate attention.

The seamless transition and commencement of Hon. Okolo’s tenure have instilled confidence among the people of Awgu, with many expressing optimism about the future of the local government area.
