In a heartfelt plea on the floor of the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Anayo B. Onwuegbu, FNSE, Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency of Enugu State, has called on the Federal Government to address the devastating floods that recently ravaged Mpu, Okpanku communities in Enugu State and Ishiagu community in Ebonyi State.
The flooding, which occurred earlier this month, wreaked havoc on farmlands and homes, leaving residents in dire need of assistance.

Hon. Onwuegbu’s motion, titled “Urgent Need for the Federal Government Intervention to Include Ivo Multi-purpose Earth Dam for Urgent Completion,” highlighted the overflow of the dam’s reservuoir, which contributed to the flooding.
He emphasized that the dam, awarded since 2009, remains incomplete due to insufficient budgetary allocations and urged the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to prioritize the project’s completion, especially with newly earmarked special funds for dam rehabilitation.

Additionally, Hon. Onwuegbu called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to swiftly provide relief materials, including food and medical supplies, to the affected communities stressing the urgent need for intervention to alleviate the suffering of the displaced residents.
In his closing remarks, Hon. Onwuegbu vowed to follow through on the matter, ensuring that the needs of the people are addressed and the project is brought to its logical conclusion.

His proactive advocacy highlights his commitment to the welfare of his constituents and underscores the importance of government intervention in mitigating future disasters.
