
The Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, has pledged to support the empowerment program for youths in Enugu State.

This pledge was made on Monday, 25th November, 2024, during the closing ceremony of a two-week short-term vocational and entrepreneurship training program for youths, held at the Enugu North Local Government Council headquarters.

The Honorable Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Enugu State, Hon Barr Lioyd Ekweremadu, visited the Enugu North Local Government Council headquarters to mark the closing ceremony of the training program. The program, dubbed “Tomorrow is Here,” aims to equip young people with valuable skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurship prospects.

Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, who was overwhelmed by the products produced by the youths in different areas, thanked His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and the Honorable Commissioner for Youths and Sports for organizing the training program. He commended the youths for their patience and commitment to participate in the training process from the beginning to the end.

The Council boss, Dr. Onoh, maintained that the challenges government face in this type of program is that most often people don’t respond. He emphasized that the youths who brought out their time to participate in the program organized by Enugu State Government in Enugu North from the beginning till the end of the two weeks duration for the training deserve to be congratulated.

Dr. Ibenaku Onoh promised to buy a copy of the training book for each of the participants. He also disclosed that Enugu North Local Government will support the empowerment program for youths after screening, which the Honorable Commissioner mentioned. Additionally, he announced that Enugu North Local Government will soon roll out its own empowerment program for youths.

The trainees, who were in a very happy mood, thanked His Excellency for the training program. Some of them said that customers have already started demanding for their products. They showcased some of the products they produced, which included chin-chim, peanut, liquid soap, perfume, disinfectant, and others.

The Honorable Commissioner expressed his gratitude to the Governor for initiating the program, which aligns with his vision to move the economy of Enugu State forward. He pointed out that the major challenge facing youths in Enugu State is unemployment, and the state government is working to address this issue by providing avenues for vocational training and capacity building programs.

The Honorable Commissioner commended the youths who participated in the training for availing themselves of the opportunity to be trained. He also thanked the management of the Potters Wheel for imparting skills into the participants.
