
In commemoration of the International Day of Education, the office of Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, First Lady of Enugu State, in collaboration with the Custos Care Foundation, organized a three-day interactive and immersive program across the three senatorial zones of Enugu State.

The program, themed “AI and Education: Human Agency in an Automated World,” was designed to inspire and enlighten students on the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, while emphasizing the enduring importance of human values in an increasingly automated world.

The first phase of the program commenced in the Enugu North Senatorial Zone, hosted at Nsukka Local Government Area, where hundreds of students, teachers, and stakeholders from various local governments converged for the event.


The day’s activities began with a warm welcome address by the Nsukka Chairperson, Mrs. Stephanie Asogwa, followed by remarks from the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Engr. Jude Asogwa. Their words set the tone for the event, underscoring the importance of equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an AI-driven future.


Dr. Uzoamaka Uzoechina, Technical Adviser on Gender Affairs, delivered a compelling overview of the program’s theme, highlighting the need to balance rapid technological advancements with ethical considerations and the irreplaceable role of human agency.


Dr. Chinyere Onyeisi, Special Adviser on Education Innovation and Director of Experiential Learning at Enugu Smart Green Schools, delivered an engaging session on the transformative potential of AI in education. She demonstrated how to use virtual reality (VR) to create immersive and interactive learning environments. Her presentation emphasized that while AI brings remarkable opportunities, it must work with human values like empathy and morality rather than supplant them.


Mr. Chidubem Anawor, Managing Director of the Enugu State Tech Hub, elaborated on the vast opportunities in an AI-powered world. He provided valuable insights into online courses and training programs championed by the Enugu State Government to equip students with essential skills to thrive in an automated future.


In her address, aptly represented by Barr. Empress Ugo Ferdinand, Igbo-Eze South Chairperson, the First Lady reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to preparing students for the future. She highlighted the importance of bridging the digital divide to ensure equitable access to AI education and innovation for all. She also emphasized the need to nurture responsibility, creativity, and ethical leadership in young people, ensuring that the integration of AI technology uplifts society as a whole.


The First Lady expressed her gratitude to the chairpersons of the local government areas within the Enugu North Senatorial Zone for their exceptional contributions to the event’s success. She acknowledged their unwavering support, dedication, and commitment, which were instrumental in bringing the vision to life and ensuring its positive impact on students and educators.
