ENUGU NORTH LGA TO COMMISSION URBAN RENEWAL PROJECTS

The Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State is poised to commission the first phase of its ambitious Urban Renewal Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at transforming the local government’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.

According to a statement signed by Dr. Chukwuemeka Aroh, Secretary of Enugu North LGA, the commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, across selected project sites and at the Enugu North LGA Headquarters, starting at 10:00 AM. The event will be graced by the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Urban Renewal Programme is a key component of the state government’s development agenda, and the commissioning of its first phase marks a significant milestone in the local government’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and sustainable urban development.

The projects to be commissioned include:

  • Ihewuishi Street, Ogui/Ukwa Street Road: A fully asphalted road linking Presidential Road to Alvan Ikoku Street and Rangers Avenue, expected to improve vehicular movement and reduce travel time for residents.
  • Owa Street & St. Peter’s Anglican Church Road: Newly asphalted roads connecting Ngenevu and Okpatu Street in the Coal Camp area, enhancing accessibility and connectivity in the community.
  • Upgraded City Hall: The renovated City Hall, located at the Enugu North LGA Headquarters, is now equipped to handle civic and administrative functions, providing a modern and efficient workspace for local government officials.
  • Solar-Powered Streetlights: The installation of 1,000 units of 300-watt solar-powered streetlights will significantly enhance nighttime security and illumination across the 13 wards of Enugu North LGA, promoting a safer and more livable environment.
