
The Federal Government has pledged to ensure the timely completion of Section Three of the 61-kilometre Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, reaffirming its commitment to delivering critical road infrastructure in the South East.

The minister led a high-powered federal delegation to the construction site, where he underscored the project’s importance to national development.
Idris noted that modern highways are vital for boosting economic activities, improving safety, and enhancing the welfare of citizens. “This project is a visible testament to government’s resolve to complete strategic highways nationwide for the benefit of Nigerians,” he said.
The road, being constructed by CGC Nigeria Limited, spans 61 kilometres in one direction, 122 kilometres in total, and is valued at ₦100.8 billion. Director of Highways, Southeast, Engineer Tony Mbiko, disclosed that the Enugu-bound carriageway has been completed, while work is ongoing on the remaining section.
The minister’s visit, alongside other federal officials, signals the government’s determination to fast-track the delivery of the expressway, which is expected to improve connectivity between Enugu and Port Harcourt and stimulate economic growth across the South East and South South regions.
