The Enugu State Marketing Company has unveiled a new Buy Now, Pay Later scheme, a consumer-friendly innovation aimed at easing the financial burden on residents.

Special Adviser on Agriculture to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer/General Manager of the Company, Engr. Michael Ogbuekwe, disclosed the development during an appearance on Beyond the Headlines, a programme on Freedom Square TV anchored by Uchenna Cyril Anioke.

According to Ogbuekwe, the initiative, part of the disruptive innovation policy of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, allows Enugu State workers to purchase products from the Company and defer payment until the end of the month.

He explained that the scheme is designed to give people access to essential goods and services without the immediate pressure of full payment. “Buy Now, Pay Later helps in financial management, as families manage their finances better, but also boosts sales for local businesses, thereby driving economic activity in Enugu State,” he said.

The CEO emphasized that the system is structured to promote affordability, trust, and financial inclusion while stimulating local trade. He also assured that strict monitoring measures have been put in place to ensure accountability and prevent abuse.

Ogbuekwe concluded that the initiative is part of the Company’s ongoing efforts to improve consumer welfare, expand access to basic needs, and contribute to the broader economic growth of Enugu State.
