The Enugu State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that the access road to Coal City Extension, Eastern Alliance Estate was constructed by “pouring coal tar on red soil.”
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Ngozi Ngene, the government clarified that the project in question is not being executed by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, but by the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation.
Ngene explained that road construction is guided by strict engineering standards, which involve building in well-defined layers to guarantee both foundation and surface strength. According to her, all materials used are carefully selected, treated, compacted, and subjected to laboratory tests before application.
She further noted that lateritic soil—commonly found in the region—is an internationally recognised engineering material used in road pavement design. When properly stabilised and compacted, she said, it delivers the strength and durability required for long-lasting roads.
“Laterite is not mere ‘red soil,’ as widely assumed, but a globally accepted standard material in professional road construction,” Ngene stressed.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard the misleading claims, assuring that the Enugu State Government remains committed to upholding the highest engineering standards in all its infrastructural projects.
