
The Enugu State Police Command has firmly debunked claims circulating in a viral video alleging unlawful detention and the killing of suspects within its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, describing the content as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

According to the police, preliminary investigations reveal that the video lacks verification and appears designed to erode public trust in law enforcement.
“The Command categorically states that no such incident has taken place,” the statement read, emphasizing that all individuals in police custody are treated in accordance with established legal standards and with full respect for their fundamental human rights.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, called on residents to exercise caution and responsibility in consuming and sharing information, particularly on social media platforms. He urged the public to disregard the viral video and avoid spreading unverified claims capable of inciting fear or undermining confidence in security agencies.
Giwa further advised citizens to rely on official police communication channels for accurate and timely information, reiterating the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
The Police Command also reassured residents of its unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the state, noting that maintaining public trust remains central to its operations.

The development comes amid increasing concerns over the spread of misinformation online, with authorities urging greater vigilance and media literacy among the public.
