
Enugu State has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment, national unity, and sustainable development as hundreds of prospective corps members were formally sworn in at the commencement of the 2026 Batch B Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Course.

The colourful ceremony, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Awgu Local Government Area, marked the official beginning of the one-year national service programme and attracted a distinguished gathering of government officials, traditional rulers, security agencies, and community leaders who turned out in solidarity with Nigeriaโs next generation of leaders.

Representing the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, the Chief of Staff, Ndubuisi Nwaudeigwe, warmly welcomed the prospective corps members and congratulated them on reaching a significant milestone in their academic and civic journey.

He described the NYSC scheme as a critical platform for fostering national unity, cultural integration, and grassroots development, urging the corps members to embrace the opportunity to positively impact their host communities throughout their service year.
Nwaudeigwe also lauded the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for its remarkable developmental strides, particularly in infrastructure expansion and security enhancement across the state. According to him, the governorโs visionary leadership has positioned Enugu as one of the safest states in Nigeria, creating a conducive environment for corps members to live, learn, and contribute meaningfully.
He further assured the participants of their safety, emphasizing that effective collaboration among security agencies, camp authorities, and relevant stakeholders had been strengthened to ensure a peaceful and successful orientation programme.

Delivering the address of Governor Mbah, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, charged the corps members to approach their national assignment with dedication, discipline, patriotism, and professionalism.
The commissioner highlighted Enugu Stateโs ongoing transformation into a thriving hub of innovation and economic growth, driven by strategic investments in technology, agriculture, tourism, education, and industrial development.
Enugu State is a land of opportunities. We are building a modern economy where ideas are nurtured, innovation thrives, and young people can achieve their full potential, he stated.
Ekweremadu encouraged the corps members to move beyond routine service responsibilities by identifying challenges within their host communities and developing innovative solutions capable of creating lasting impact.
He also urged them to take full advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme, describing it as a practical pathway to self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Enugu State Government to the welfare of corps members, the commissioner assured them that their safety, well-being, and overall success remain a top priority. He noted that the state would continue to work closely with NYSC management and security agencies to provide a conducive environment for service.
Ekweremadu further commended the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Oluwakemi Awolola, for her exemplary leadership and dedication to the successful implementation of the scheme in Enugu State.

With the formal declaration of the orientation course open, Enugu State once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, security, and the creation of opportunities that enable young Nigerians to thrive while contributing meaningfully to national development.
