
Hon Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi of Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State was among the Joint Oversight Delegation of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport and the House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration an oversight visit to Tyne Coast College, South Shields, United Kingdom, under the Nigerian Seafarers’ Development Programme, (NSDP.)

The leader joint committee, Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun said the visit was part of the National Assembly’s constitutional responsibility to assess the implementation of the NSDP – a strategic initiative of the Federal Government to train competent, globally competitive Nigerian seafarers for the maritime industry.

Sen. Eshilokun noted that maritime transport remained critical to Nigeria’s economic growth, and investment in human capital stressing that it was essential to ensure Nigerian youths acquire the knowledge, skills and certifications required to compete globally.

“We are here to evaluate progress, assess the academic performance and welfare of our cadets, and inspect the quality of training and facilities at Tyne Coast College. We also had direct interaction with the cadets to hear their experiences and identify areas for improvement,” the Senator stated.

He commended the dedication and discipline of the Nigerian cadets, describing them as “ambassadors of Nigeria and future leaders of our maritime industry.” He urged them to remain focused, uphold professionalism, and maximize the opportunities provided through the programme.

The Senator also acknowledged the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, (NIMASA), for its continued commitment and investment in the NSDP.
He assured that observations and recommendations from the oversight visit would guide the National Assembly in providing legislative support and policy direction for the continued success of the programme.

He expressed appreciation to the Management and Staff of Tyne Coast College for the warm reception and for the quality of support being provided to Nigerian cadets.
