The initiative, which was implemented in partnership with Jobberman Nigeria, the Rural Engagement and Development Foundation (REDFoundation), and Roar Nigeria Hub, focused on preparing students for life after graduation. Participants drawn from 10 faculties received intensive training in employability, soft skills, and career development, equipping them with the tools needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market.

Beyond skills acquisition, the programme also provided financial assistance to students facing economic challenges. A total of ₦739,400 was disbursed through various support schemes, including full and partial tuition sponsorships for indigent and visually impaired students, as well as a zero-interest loan facility. Additionally, 140 students received power banks to aid their academic activities and ensure uninterrupted access to digital learning resources.

The YAW project also placed a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship. One outstanding student beneficiary received a ₦500,000 zero-interest business grant to support the growth of their enterprise. Several other participants benefited from mentorship programmes focused on career advancement, social entrepreneurship, savings culture, and microfinance management.

The initiative reflects UNN’s commitment to promoting innovation, inclusiveness, and human capital development while improving graduate employability. By supporting vulnerable students and creating opportunities for entrepreneurship, the project continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young people.

Students who participated in the programme expressed appreciation to the University Management, led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, for creating an enabling environment that contributed to the project’s success. Development partners involved in the initiative also reaffirmed their commitment to expanding the programme’s reach and impact in future phases.
