Speaking shortly after the official commissioning of the airline in Enugu, the Chief Executive Officer of First Choice Afro Villa Ltd and Mburubu Construction Company Ltd, Chief Dr. Jerry Patrick Onuokaibe, described the initiative as a landmark achievement that will significantly transform regional infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth.

According to Chief Onuokaibe, the establishment of Enugu Air represents a bold and strategic step toward positioning Enugu State as a major aviation, investment, and commercial hub in Nigeria.

“What Governor Mbah has done with Enugu Air goes far beyond launching an airline. It is about creating economic bridges, improving connectivity, attracting investors, and redefining how people, goods, and opportunities move across the South-East and beyond,” he stated.

The renowned businessman and construction expert noted that the airline’s debut, with an initial fleet of three Embraer aircraft from the E170 and E190 series, demonstrates visionary leadership and a practical response to the long-standing transportation challenges facing the region.

He observed that inadequate access to efficient air travel had previously discouraged many investors from considering opportunities in the South-East.

“For years, limited air connectivity remained one of the concerns raised by investors looking at the region. With Enugu Air, that narrative is changing. Enugu is no longer just a state capital; it is rapidly emerging as a regional aviation and investment destination,” he said.

Chief Onuokaibe further applauded the administration’s decision to connect Enugu with key economic centres such as Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, and Kano through strategically planned flight routes.

“The scope of this project reflects thoughtful planning and a clear understanding of economic development. By linking Enugu to major commercial cities across the country, Governor Mbah has created new channels for trade, investment, tourism, and the movement of skilled manpower.”

He emphasized that the economic benefits of Enugu Air would extend well beyond the aviation sector.

According to him, industries such as construction, hospitality, logistics, technology, education, and commerce are expected to experience positive growth as improved connectivity drives increased business activities across the region.

“The impact of this project will be far-reaching. The easier it becomes for people and goods to move, the faster economic growth will occur. It will also strengthen the confidence of diaspora investors by providing more convenient access to their home region,” he added.

Chief Onuokaibe also commended the Governor’s choice of the Embraer aircraft series, describing it as a smart and strategic decision suited to regional operations and the existing aviation infrastructure within the country.

While praising the administration’s achievements, he urged leaders across the South-East to emulate Governor Mbah’s development-driven approach and commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure projects.

“Leadership is ultimately about solving real problems. Today, Governor Mbah has addressed a challenge that has limited the region’s growth for decades. This is the kind of visionary governance that drives sustainable development and inspires public confidence,” he concluded.
