Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!In a major political declaration ahead of the 2027 general elections, political leaders, traditional rulers, professionals, youth representatives, women groups and other influential stakeholders from Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State have unanimously endorsed Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for a second term in office, adopted his re-election bid as “The Awgu Project,” and threw their weight behind Hon. Uche Okolo as their preferred candidate for the forthcoming local government election.
The stakeholders also passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the newly elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr. Sir Martin Chukwunweike, expressing confidence in his leadership and ability to strengthen the party and reposition it for greater political relevance in the state.
The resolutions were contained in a communiquรฉ issued at the end of a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday at Best Western Hotel, Enugu. The gathering, convened by Dr. Chukwunweike to celebrate his emergence as APC State Chairman, attracted political office holders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, professionals, business leaders, women, youths and party faithful from across Awgu Local Government Area.
The stakeholders applauded Governor Mbah’s visionary leadership, noting that his administration’s investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, technology and human capital development have transformed governance in Enugu State through visible and impactful projects.
They particularly commended the administration’s Smart Green Schools initiative, extensive road construction and rehabilitation, healthcare reforms and other flagship programmes, which they said have restored public confidence in governance and accelerated development across the state.
The meeting further acknowledged Governor Mbah’s commitment to the development of Awgu Local Government Area through the ongoing upgrade of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Awgu, rehabilitation of the Awgu Games Village, construction of 11 Smart Green Schools and 11 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the council’s wards, as well as efforts to revive the Enugu State University of Education, Ihe.
According to the communiquรฉ, these projects are expected to improve access to quality education and healthcare, stimulate economic activities and enhance the socio-economic well-being of residents.
In one of its most significant resolutions, the stakeholders formally adopted Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election in 2027 as The Awgu Project, calling on traditional rulers, political leaders, religious organisations, town unions, youth groups, women associations, students and all residents of Awgu Local Government Area to unite in delivering overwhelming support for the governor at the polls.
The meeting also resolved to seek a courtesy visit to Governor Mbah through Dr. Martin Chukwunweike to formally appreciate him for the numerous developmental projects executed in Awgu and reaffirm the people’s support for his administration.
The stakeholders equally expressed implicit confidence in the leadership of Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, describing him as an experienced administrator whose competence, integrity, humility and commitment to public service have earned him widespread respect. They expressed optimism that his leadership would strengthen internal cohesion within the APC and reposition the party for greater success in Enugu State.
The meeting further endorsed Hon. Uche Okolo as its preferred candidate for the forthcoming local government election, urging the people of Awgu to rally behind him and all APC candidates during the polls.

Uche Okolo; Chairman of the Awgu Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Igwe Cyprian Nevobasi; Executive Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Rt. Hon. Toby Okechukwu; Commissioner for Poverty Eradication, Prof. Benedeth Okoli; Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Best Western Hotel, Chief Isaac Egu; former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Uche Uzochukwu; former National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Rt. Hon. Dr. Chiedozie Alex Ogbonnia; Vice Chairman of Awgu Local Government, Dr. Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto; Acting Dean, School of Management and Social Studies, Maduka University, Dr. Malachy Chuma Ochie; former Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Martin Anikwe; Chairman of the Enugu State Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC), Comrade Tony Udeh, alongside several traditional rulers, political leaders, professionals and community stakeholders.
The outcome of the meeting reflects growing political support for Governor Peter Mbah’s administration in Awgu Local Government Area while reinforcing the confidence reposed in Dr. Martin Chukwunweike’s leadership of the APC in Enugu State. The endorsement of Hon. Uche Okolo for the forthcoming local government election further signals a united political front as Awgu prepares for the next electoral cycle.
