SOUTH-EAST IN FOCUS: TINUBU NAMES GOV. MBAH TO STEER APC’S 2027 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN ACROSS THE REGION

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has been appointed the Zonal Campaign Coordinator for the South-East in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.

The appointment was contained in the full list of members of the Presidential Campaign Council released on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by the Presidency through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Governor Mbah’s appointment places him at the helm of the APC’s presidential campaign coordination across the five South-East states of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo and Abia, giving him a strategic role in the party’s efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development further underscores the growing importance of the South-East in the APC’s national campaign strategy as the party moves to strengthen its political structure and expand its electoral base across the region.

President Tinubu will chair the Presidential Campaign Council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, will serve as Vice Chairmen I and II respectively.

Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, was named Director-General of the council, while Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, will serve as Secretary. Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru was appointed Deputy Secretary, with Hadiza Bala Usman as Assistant Secretary.

Other zonal campaign coordinators appointed by the party include Senator Bassey Otu for the South-South, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the South-West, Niger State Governor Umar Bago for the North-Central, Senator Modu Sheriff for the North-East and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for the North-West.

The Presidential Campaign Council is expected to coordinate the APC’s nationwide mobilisation, campaign messaging and grassroots engagement, while highlighting the policies, programmes and achievements of the Tinubu administration as the party prepares for the 2027 polls.

With Governor Mbah now assigned to coordinate the South-East campaign, political attention is expected to focus increasingly on the region as the APC intensifies its preparations for the presidential contest.

Mbah’s role will therefore be critical to the party’s strategy in a region regarded as strategically important to its broader ambition of consolidating national support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
