Ogbuekwe’s Campaign Gets Major Boost as Ohuani/Onicha Agu Stakeholders Donate ₦1m

…Communities pledge 100% support for APC candidates, endorse Mbah’s development agenda

The campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Nkanu East Local Government Area, Engr. Mike Chikosolu Ogbuekwe, received a significant grassroots boost on Tuesday when stakeholders and residents of Ohuani/Onicha Agu donated ₦1 million to his campaign and pledged their support for his chairmanship bid and other APC candidates.

The endorsement came during Ogbuekwe’s campaign visits to Ohuani/Onicha Agu, Amechi Idodo, Orukwu and Umuode, where community leaders, youths, women and political stakeholders turned out to receive the candidate and express their support for the development agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

At Ohuani/Onicha Agu, the former chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Chief Hon. Ikechukwu Ubagu, who spoke on behalf of stakeholders and residents, formally presented the ₦1 million donation to Ogbuekwe, popularly known as Mmiri Ọma Na Nkanu.

Ubagu also pledged the ward’s support for Ogbuekwe in the September 26, 2026 local government election, while assuring that the community would support APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was anchored largely on the development record of Governor Mbah, whose administration, the stakeholders said, had made visible interventions across Enugu State and Nkanu East in particular.

It was a political gathering, but the dominant theme was development.

Again and again, speakers returned to the Governor’s projects, describing them as evidence of a government whose impact, in their view, had moved beyond political speeches and into the communities.

At Amechi Idodo/Orukwu, the member representing Nkanu East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Okey Mbah, commended the residents for their turnout and solidarity with the Governor and the APC chairmanship candidate.

The APC Chairman in Nkanu East, Hon. Abel Nwigwe, said the campaign should not be viewed simply as an exercise in vote canvassing. Rather, he described it as an opportunity for the people to acknowledge what he called the Governor’s commitment to the transformation of Nkanu East.

For Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe, Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), the choice before the electorate was equally clear. He described Ogbuekwe as an educated, tested and trusted candidate with the capacity to lead Nkanu East, while pledging his support for both the candidate and Governor Mbah.

Hon. Emeka Nwatu, Director-General of the Mmiri Ọma Campaign Organisation, also described Ogbuekwe as a competent and experienced personality whose background, he said, had equipped him for the responsibilities of local government administration.

But endorsements, however impressive, are only one side of an election campaign. The more difficult question is what the candidate intends to do with the confidence being placed in him.

Ogbuekwe’s answer was contained in his development agenda.

He pledged to adopt and replicate the development framework of Governor Mbah in Nkanu East, with emphasis on infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development and security.

He also identified youth development and empowerment, market development and other grassroots infrastructure as priorities, promising to build on the foundation already laid by the state government.

His proposition is therefore straightforward: consolidate what has begun, take development closer to the people and make the local government an active participant in the transformation taking place across the state.

The events in the four communities have consequently added a new dimension to the Nkanu East chairmanship race. Beyond the speeches and campaign slogans, there was money on the table, public endorsements and explicit electoral commitments.

For Ogbuekwe, the political journey has entered another phase.

The ₦1 million donation may not determine an election. Neither will a single rally.

But in politics, symbols matter.

And on Tuesday, Ohuani/Onicha Agu, Amechi Idodo, Orukwu and Umuode supplied Ogbuekwe’s campaign with a symbol that every candidate understands: grassroots acceptance.

The real verdict, however, will come on September 26.
