In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, on September 11, 2026, Otti described the honour as a fitting recognition of Mbah’s leadership, commitment to public service and efforts towards the development of Enugu State.

The University conferred the Doctor of Law, honoris causa, on Mbah in recognition of his contributions to governance and public service.

“Your Excellency, this honour from the University of East London is a testament to the impact of your administration in Enugu State,” Otti said.

The Abia governor noted that the recognition was particularly significant because of the university’s commendation of Mbah’s investment in education and his philosophy of human development.

The university highlighted Mbah’s belief that “education is fundamentally the cornerstone of human progress, the bedrock upon which the future stands”, describing the philosophy as one that resonates strongly with its institutional values.

Otti said the honour also reflected the confidence placed in Mbah’s leadership and the progress being recorded in Enugu State under his administration.

He further situated the recognition within the broader aspiration of rebuilding the South-East and transforming the region into a major centre of commerce, industry and innovation.

“As leaders in the South East, we share a common vision to rebuild our region and make it a hub of commerce, industry and innovation in Nigeria. Your commitment to good governance is encouraging,” Otti said.

Otti prayed that the honorary doctorate would spur Mbah to greater service to Enugu State and Nigeria, while wishing him continued wisdom, strength and success as he pilots the affairs of the state.
