Just In: Amah Installed as 32nd President of Rotary Club of New Haven

The Rotary Club of New Haven, Enugu, ushered a new era over the weekend with the installation of Chukwudi Amah, Esq. as its 32nd President.

The investiture ceremony, performed by the Immediate Past President, Rotarian Adaeze Nwokoro, was held at the Miracle Arena, Amadeo Event Centre, Enugu.

In her remarks, Mrs. Nwokoro described Amah as a humane and committed Rotarian who has distinguished himself through various charitable initiatives, citing among others, his payment of WAEC and NECO fees for all students of Nkpologu Community in Uzo-Uwani LGA.

She also expressed gratitude to the Club for the opportunity to serve and to contribute her quota to society, noting that Rotary has contributed immeasurably to shaping her outlook.

“I thank the Club for the opportunity given to me to make an impact that positively affected the public. Under my leadership, the Rotary Club of New Haven received several awards in recognition of our service. I thank you all for the privilege to serve, and I will remain a committed member of the Club,” she said.

In his address, President Amah reflected on the role Rotary has played in his life, stating that the Club was not called to create transient noise, but to make enduring impact.

He recalled that Rotary Clubs worldwide have contributed tremendously to the immunization of over 3 billion children against polio and have channeled over $2 billion toward the eradication of the disease.

“This year, Rotary International calls on us to Create Lasting Impact. Weigh those words with me, for they were not chosen carelessly. We are not asked to create noise or excitement that flares up tonight and is forgotten by the weekend. We are asked to create impact that lasts, that is still standing long after the drums have gone silent and we ourselves have moved on,” he said.

“It instilled in me the habits of integrity, diligence, and genuine care for others that have carried me through every office I have been privileged to hold. Whatever I have become, Rotary has a hand in it. I stand before you tonight as President of this Club, but I am, first and always, a grateful son of Rotary. What it has done for me, it can do for you. That is not a sales pitch. It is my testimony,” he added.

President Amah outlined the focus areas of his administration to include:
Reading Room at New Haven Secondary School, International Literacy Day Reading Marathon, Women’s Micro-Enterprise Grant, Donation to The Rotary Foundation, Mass Health Screening, International Day of Persons with Disabilities Livelihood Programme, Domestic Violence Response Seminar & Shelter Support, New Haven Market WASH Renovation and New Haven Green Streets Tree Planting Marathon

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Installation Committee, Rotarian Agbasielo Peter Iwuchukwu, described Rotary as a global fellowship of people who believe that the highest measure of leadership is service.

He noted that the Club seeks to support society through education, improved health, economic empowerment, peace promotion, water and sanitation, environmental protection, and the restoration of dignity and hope to the most vulnerable.

“Every meaningful contribution whether of time, expertise, advocacy, or funding helps transform good intentions into visible service. Today, we celebrate the leadership journey of Rtn. Chukwudi Celestine Amah, a committed Rotarian, legal practitioner, and public servant. As he assumes this responsibility, we are confident that his passion for service, professional discipline, and commitment to community development will lead the Rotary Club of New Haven to greater impact,” he said.

The high point of the event was the conferment of awards and the sponsorship of the proposed projects by the following awardees: Dr. Kingsley Udeh, SAN, Hon. Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology (Professional Service Award); Hon. Osinachi Nnajieze, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Enugu State (Professional Service Award); Dr. Mike Ajogwu, SAN, Former Attorney-General of Enugu State and Former Chairman, ENSIEC (Professional Service Award); Mr. Tony Okonkwo, Personal Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State and President, Tomorrow Is Here Movement (Community Service Award); Engr. Hyginus Ogbonna Agu, Chairman, Udi Local Government Area (Community Service Award).

Others are: CSP Chijioke Ogbodo, Divisional Police Officer (Professional Service Award); Mr. Tochukwu Otiji, Founder, PEPJYDZ Ltd (Vocational Service Award); Anayo Victor Onuzuruike, Founder & CEO, Zuruike Properties Ltd (Vocational Service Award); Amobi Ezeaku, Esq., GM/CEO, Rangers International Football Club of Enugu (Vocational Service Award) and Arc.
