The member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Paul Sunday Nnamchi, has felicitated with his constituents and Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for renewed faith in the Nigerian project and a stronger commitment to national unity and development.

He described independence as more than a historical milestone, stressing that it represents an enduring responsibility handed from one generation to another.
According to him, the significance of October 1 lies not only in commemorating the attainment of self-government, but also in asking what present generations can do to strengthen the foundations upon which the nation’s future will be built.
Nnamchi said Nigeria’s greatest strength remains its people, pointing to their resilience, enterprise, creativity and ability to thrive despite the challenges that have confronted the country over the decades.
He urged Nigerians to draw strength from their diversity rather than allow differences to become sources of division.
“Our independence is both an inheritance from those who came before us and a responsibility to those who will come after us. We must continue to build a Nigeria where our diversity strengthens our unity, where democracy serves the people and where every citizen can look to the future with hope.”
The lawmaker called for greater respect for democratic institutions, the rule of law and responsible citizenship, stressing that sustainable national development cannot be achieved by government alone.
He said citizens, political leaders, professionals, businesses, traditional institutions, civil society and young people all have important roles to play in advancing the country.
While acknowledging the difficulties confronting Nigeria, Nnamchi said the challenges should strengthen rather than diminish the collective resolve to build a better nation.
He particularly urged young Nigerians to take ownership of the country’s future, describing them as important stakeholders in the task of transforming Nigeria’s enormous human and material potential into sustainable development.
The federal lawmaker also used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to the people of Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, saying their welfare and aspirations would remain central to his responsibilities as their representative in the National Assembly.
He expressed appreciation to his constituents for their confidence and support, assuring them of continued commitment to responsible representation and legislative engagement on issues affecting the constituency.
Nnamchi said the 66th Independence Anniversary should therefore be a moment of reflection, gratitude and renewed national purpose.
“Let us honour the sacrifices of our forebears not merely by remembering them, but by building the Nigeria they envisioned — a nation of dignity, opportunity, justice and peace. The next chapter of our national story belongs to all of us,” he said.
He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s capacity to overcome its present challenges and fulfil its potential, urging Nigerians to remain united and committed to the common good.
Nnamchi wished the people of Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency, Enugu State and Nigerians at home and abroad a peaceful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary.
