The Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) has taken its sensitisation and Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises to five communities in Enugu East Local Government Area as part of efforts to identify grassroots development priorities under the NG-CARES 2.0 intervention programme.

The communities covered are Nchatancha, Edem Nike, Nkomoru, Onuogba and Agbogazi. The exercise is designed to engage residents in identifying their most pressing needs and determining development priorities that will inform prospective community projects.

The delegation was led by the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of CSDA, Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, and featured the member representing Enugu East Rural Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Raymond Ugwu, who accompanied the agency’s team.

Addressing members of the elected Community Project Management Committees (CPMCs), Ani charged them to demonstrate accountability, transparency and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities, particularly during project implementation.

He urged the committee members to approach their duties with a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that the success of grassroots interventions depends not only on identifying community needs but also on ensuring that project resources are managed prudently and applied to their intended purposes.

The CSDA chief executive further emphasised the importance of adhering to established guidelines, making decisions in the collective interest of the communities and maintaining transparency throughout the project implementation process.

He encouraged the CPMC members to remain committed to serving their people, noting that responsible leadership and active community participation were essential to ensuring that development interventions deliver meaningful and sustainable benefits.

The Participatory Rural Appraisal exercise provides a platform for residents to articulate their development aspirations, identify priority needs and participate directly in shaping interventions aimed at improving their living conditions. The approach also seeks to strengthen community ownership and accountability by ensuring that projects reflect the actual needs of their intended beneficiaries.

The initiative aligns with the development agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whose administration has prioritised inclusive development, grassroots engagement and improved access to essential services across Enugu State.

Through the CSDA and the NG-CARES framework, the state government continues to promote community participation in development planning, with the aim of ensuring that interventions respond to local realities and deliver sustainable outcomes.

Meanwhile, Hon. Raymond Ugwu and other community leaders commended Governor Mbah for his interest in and support for rural communities across the state. They acknowledged the importance of government interventions that bring development opportunities closer to the grassroots and enable residents to participate in decisions affecting their welfare.

The engagement underscores the role of community participation, accountable leadership and responsible project management in ensuring that grassroots development programmes achieve their intended objectives and translate into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.
