Governor Peter Mbah’s administration has received high praise from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) for its outstanding efforts in improving healthcare in the state.
During a courtesy visit to the governor, NPHCDA’s Executive Director, Dr. Muyi Aina, commended Governor Mbah for being the first governor to implement federal health policies. Dr. Aina specifically highlighted the governor’s prompt release of counterpart funds, noting that Enugu State is the only state in Nigeria to do so consistently.
“Governor Mbah’s commitment to healthcare is exemplary,” Dr. Aina stated. “His recruitment of 450 healthcare workers is a significant step towards strengthening the state’s healthcare system.”
Dr. Aina revealed that NPHCDA has completed the assessment of 253 healthcare facilities in Enugu State and allocated 254 million Naira as part of the Basic Care Provision Fund to support the state government’s efforts to revamp healthcare facilities. Additionally, more Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in Enugu will benefit from the agency’s increased allocation, known as Direct Facility Financing.
The visit aimed to establish a robust partnership between NPHCDA and the Enugu State government in primary healthcare development. Governor Mbah expressed his administration’s preparedness to sustain the partnership, outlining plans to build more Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centers across the state, in addition to the 260 already awarded.
“We are committed to ensuring universal health coverage and making Enugu a leader in healthcare,” Governor Mbah said. “We cannot condone the incidence of mother and child mortality, as well as child killer diseases. We will institutionalize primary healthcare to address these challenges.”
