The entirety of Awgu South constituency converged yesterday to pay homage to the newly elected Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Dr. Sir Martin Chukwunweike, at his Enugu residence in New GRA Trans-Ekulu.

The gathering was a testament to the massive support and solidarity shown by the entire people of Awgu South state constituency in celebrating Dr. Chukwunweike’s victory in the recent PDP congress elections. In September, the Enugu state PDP elected a new 39-member State Executive Committee, with Dr. Martin Chukwunweike as the new Chairman and Barr. Stephen Oruruo as the Deputy Chairman.
The event kicked off with an opening prayer said by Sir Stephen Nweke, followed by the presentation of gift items by stakeholders and party faithful, led by Dr. Uche Uzochukwu. Dr. Uche expressed optimism about Dr. Martin bringing peace to Awgu Local Government and Enugu State in general, promising unwavering support.
The Former PDP Local government Chairman of Awgu, Hon. Okey Nathan Ude, echoed solidarity of Ndi Awgu South, urging unity and strength within the party for continued success. Various stakeholders from the six wards of Awgu South constituency, including notable figures like Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu and Mrs. Precious Akachukwu, expressed support for the PDP state Chairman.
They highlighted the importance of unity and urged Dr. Chukwunwaike to use his position to solidify the party’s success. Despite the absence of High Chief Francis Obasi, CEO of Villa Toscana Hotels, who extended financial support for the event, the support and solidarity were palpable.
The Former Secretary to the government of Awgu Local government, Hon. Sir Eze.O.Eze, assured the constituency of fulfilling their requests with teamwork. The presence of dignitaries like Barrister Earnest Nweze and Hon. Mrs. Peace Patrick added to the grandeur of the occasion.
Notable attendees included Dr. Martin Chukwunweike (Host), Hon. Kenechukwu Okolo (Awgu Local Government PDP Chairman), Dr. Uche Uzochukwu, Barrister Eze O. Eze, Hon. SKE Udeokeye, Hon. Jane Eneh, High Chief Nwobi (CEO, Toscana – sent greetings), Hon. Amobi Edeh (Agubata), Hon. Okey Udeh, Hon. Peace Patrick (Enugu PDP Woman Leader), Hon. Stanley Okeke (ATU Ogbaku), Hon. Nelson Uduji, Hon. Tochukwu Chukwu, Hon. Pedro Nwankwo, Hon. Ndubuisi Nwankwo and many others.
Representatives from neighboring local governments, including Ezeagu, Oji River, and Udi, also joined the gathering, showcasing unity and collaboration between Awgu South and North constituencies. The event proved to be a significant milestone in reaffirming the unity and shared purpose of the PDP in Awgu Local Government.
The courtesy visit concluded with the presentation of cash gifts to the Awgu South constituency by Hon. Dr. Uche Uzochukwu and Engr. Lorence Uzo, showcasing appreciation for the support shown. The atmosphere was joyous, filled with refreshments, dance, and musical interludes, marking a celebration of unity and success.
