President Bola Tinubu Decries Violence in Rivers, Directs Police to Provide Security to Local Government Offices

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the violence in Rivers State, urging Governor Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders, and their supporters to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law. This follows reports of arson and explosions in the aftermath of last Saturday’s local government council election.

The President expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions and directed the police to immediately restore peace, law, and order in the state. He emphasized the need to ensure the security of public institutions, particularly those built with public funds, and warned against vandalism.

President Tinubu stressed that self-help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy. He emphasized the judiciary’s role in settling political disputes, noting that the outcome of this election should be no exception.

To maintain public order, President Tinubu instructed law enforcement agencies to bring the situation under control. He reiterated the importance of safeguarding government facilities and ensuring the safety of citizens.
