
Nike Grammar School, Enugu, has won the 2024 maiden edition of the Enugu metropolis secondary school soccer competition. The tournament was organized by John Nnam, former captain of Rangers International FC.

In a thrilling finale played at the University of Nigeria’s Enugu campus, Nike Boys defeated St. Patrick’s College Emene 3-2, securing the trophy and a cash prize.
Organizer John Nnam shared his motivation for hosting the competition. “My aim is to give back to the society that supported me during my playing days. I’ve seen talented young footballers, and I’ll help them showcase their skills and connect them with managers and colleagues.”
Nnam emphasized the competition’s purpose: to discover young soccer talents. He noted that school games have produced notable players like Christian Chukwu and Okocha.
The tournament will become an annual event, with the next edition scheduled for February 2025. Sponsor Anthony Zubbi stressed the importance of secondary school games in identifying young talents. “This is where one can catch future stars,” he said.
