The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) has announced plans to embark on a massive upgrade of facilities at the Police Detective College in Enugu and the Police College in Oji-River. This development aims to restore the institutions to their former glory and enable them to deliver optimally on their mandates.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!According to the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Alhaji Mohammad Sheidu, the upgrade is part of the government’s commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police and improving personnel welfare. This, in turn, will ensure effective protection and service delivery to Nigerians. Sheidu made this known during an inspection of facilities at the colleges.

Alhaji Sheidu stated that the intervention would significantly reposition the institutions, which had suffered neglect and deterioration in terms of basic infrastructure and equipment. “One of the reasons why we are here is to actually increase and help the structures of the facility. Basically to see how we can empower and make sure that the situation, living conditions, and training conditions of the personnel that will come out here are actually upgraded,” he explained.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of the Department of Training and Development, Mr. Frank Mba, accompanied the Executive Secretary on the inspection. Mba described the Police Detective College Enugu as a premier institution that “trains not just Nigeria police officers but others from the West African sub-region.” He noted that the lost glory of the institution would be restored.
Mba also emphasized the importance of the Nigeria Police College, Oji-River, stating that it is one of the four premier police colleges in Nigeria. He expressed optimism that with the commitment of the Executive Secretary to infrastructural and personnel reforms, Nigerians would soon witness significant changes at the colleges.

“The Police Detective College has a history of training other police detectives from the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in Nigeria and it is that lost glory that we intend to restore,” Mba said. “Our mission today is to have a holistic inspection of the school, and in line with the Renewed Hope Initiative of the President and the mission and vision of the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.”
Mba assured that the inspection marked the beginning of positive transformations at the colleges. “We are more positive than ever before that this time around, the country will see changes, and police officers will have reason to be proud of the agency they belong to, and Nigerians will at the end of the day feel the multiplier effect of the changes that will happen at the College.”
As part of the inspection, the Executive Secretary and his team also visited the Police Clinic in Enugu to assess its facilities.
The upgrade is expected to have a positive impact on the Nigeria Police Force, enabling officers to take pride in their work and Nigerians to benefit from enhanced security services.
