According to Hon. Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, this initiative aligns with the National Policy on Science and Technology Education, aimed at achieving national goals in science, technology, and innovation.

“The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda prioritizes addressing low female enrollment in tech,” Prof. Mamman explained. “By modernizing technical education, we’re investing in our youth and securing the future of our economy.”

A key component of this initiative is the TVET Camp for female students, providing STEM skills training to reduce poverty and empower girls to seize opportunities. The program has already shown remarkable success, with 255 participants from 29 Federal Science and Technical Colleges benefiting from a 2-week camp.

During the camp, students gained practical skills, confidence, and exposure to tech innovations. Awards were presented to best painting groups, most active students, and best-coordinated schools, recognizing their outstanding achievements.

NABTEB’s certification programs ensure participants are globally competitive and industry-ready. Dr. Asanga N. A. commended the program, stating, “These girls represent Nigeria’s future skilled workforce.”

Dr. Mrs. Muyibat Adenike Olodo emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education in Nigeria’s development. Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, echoed this sentiment, noting, “Empowering young girls through tech education is key to our state’s development.”

By providing STEM skills training, the TVET Camp prepares girls for employment, entrepreneurship, and contributing to local and national economies.
