Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Enugu State has made significant strides in empowering its youths to tackle climate change, courtesy of the efforts of Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the First Lady of Enugu State. Recently, she marked a milestone in this endeavor with a project inception workshop organized by the University of Bristol and the Society for Planet and Prosperity.


The workshop brought together stakeholders to develop a comprehensive climate education manual for Nigerian students and teachers. This initiative aims to provide a valuable resource for learning about climate change, identifying relevant topics and innovative ways to make climate education engaging and accessible.



To further encourage youth participation, an essay competition award ceremony was held, recognizing exceptional talents and ideas on climate action. The top three winners, Onyia Chukwuebuka Emmanuel, Arinze Melody Chinaza, and Ani Kenechukwu Cynthia, received cash prizes of ₦250,000, ₦150,000, and ₦100,000, respectively.


Mrs. Mbah emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing climate change, encouraging youths to take the lead and citing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 13, which focuses on climate action. She also acknowledged the efforts of key stakeholders, including Honourable Commissioners Prof. Sam Ugwu, Hon. Ngozi Enih, Prof. Ndubuisi Mbah, and Hon. Lloyd Ike Ekweremmadu Jr.


Additionally, She recognized Special Advisers Prof. Chukwuemerije Okereke, Barr. Kingsley Nnaji Esq., and Dr. Mara. B. Huber for their contributions to the initiative. Their collaborative efforts demonstrate the Enugu State government’s commitment to addressing climate change through education and advocacy.
