
The Government of Enugu State, led by His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has assured the Health sector of sustainable Solar Power Supply.

The assurance was made during the official launch of the Enugu State Solar for Health project and the Inauguration of its steering committee, recently, at the old government lodge, Enugu, where the Governor was ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia.
According to the SSG, he said the development is a pivotal step in our collective efforts to improving healthcare delivery and enhance the well-being of the people, through ensured healthcare facilities that would be powered 24hours, to enhance the capacity of workers in delivering quality healthcare.

Gov. Mbah accentuates how solar for Health will drive innovation and development, saying the project will encourage partnerships and investments in renewable energy solutions which is both environmentally friendly and cost effective in long term, to benefit not only the health sector but also other sectors of our economy.

His Excellency stresses the success of the project will rely on its strategic planning, effective implementation and robust monitoring. To this end, he was pleased to inaugurate the steering committee for the Enugu State Solar for Health project.
Comprised of experts, stakeholders and key partners, the committee will provide oversight, ensure accountability and drive the successful implementation of the program.


Earlier in his opening remarks, the Hon. Commissioner for Health and the Chairman; Steering Committee for the Enugu State Solar for Health, Assoc. Prof. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, described the project as a critical step forward in our shared commitment to improving healthcare services and also ensuring sustainable development for our communities.

The health boss revealed that His Excellency has been committed in his manifesto, adding that access to reliable energy is the backbone of any functional health system.

Earlier in her welcome speech, the Executive Secretary, Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Ifeyinwa ani-Osheku, expressed her honour and gratitude to this momentous occasion, saying that too many health facilities in underserved areas, still struggle with unreliable power supply, thereby limiting their ability to providing essential services, operate medical equipment and store life-saving vaccines and medicines.


In her own contribution, the Senior Stakeholders Engagement Expert, Tinyam Oguehor, expressed her joy in the Nigeria solar for health initiative, saying, Enugu was the first initiative to embark on the project.
