The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the local council executive chambers on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the administration’s quest to harness the economic potential of the LGA.

The 15-member committee, comprising experts from the private and public sectors, traditional rulers, and town union presidents, has been tasked with the responsibility of exploring and exploiting all available avenues for generating internal revenue for the LGA.

Specifically, the committee’s terms of reference include coordination, harmonization of taxes, and revenue generation. They are also expected to advise the council on revenue matters and enlighten members of the public on the importance of paying taxes.

In his inaugural speech, Hon. Edeh emphasized the importance of generating revenue for the LGA, stating that Nkanu East has remained on zero IGR for years, which should not continue. He charged the committee to come up with modalities on revenue generation, implement decisions, and advise the council on revenue matters. “It is very unfortunate that Nkanu East has for years remained on zero IGR, and should not remain like that henceforth,” he said.

The committee is headed by Mr. James Nwafor as chairman, with Mr. K.C. Agwu and Mr. Emma Nwafor Wil serving as secretary and deputy chairman, respectively. Other members of the committee include Hon. Abel Nwigwe, Hon. Afam Ede, and Chief Linus Ogbuzuru, among others.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from the DPO Amagunze, immigration, civil defence, and DSS. Immediately after the inauguration, the chairman attended the Nkanu East LGA CAN end-of-year prayer.
