The President of the Senate of the Students’ Union Government, (SSUG) of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, (UNN), Comrade Benjamin Agbo has expressed the need to deepen collaboration between the legislature and the academic institutions noting that it would help in tackling national challenges and unlock the potentials of the Nigerian youths.

Comrade Agbo stated these in Abuja Thursday when he led his principal officers along with some other members of the the students’ legislative body to the National Assembly to observe proceedings at the plenary of the House of Representatives.
The “senators” while paying a solidarity visit to Hon Professor Paul Sunday Nnamchi, the member representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency of Enugu State in the House of Representatives also extended their appreciation to the entire National Assembly for its pivotal role in enacting laws to shape policies that safeguard the interests of Nigeria’s academic institutions and promote sustainable development.
The team while in Professor Nnamchi’s office delivered the message of the entire SUG Senate members which was to acknowledge his vibrancy in the 10th Assembly noting that, “as a former head of department in our institution, we are proud of you for being a true ambassador of the University of Nigeria Nsukka.”
Senator Agbo stated,”we are here to appreciate you for what you are doing in the House of Representatives. We are proud of you. You have demonstrated good leadership in academic and political office”
Senator Agbo a final year student of medicine and surgery at the Enugu Campus of the university further stressed that they were not surprised at what Professor Nnamchi was doing in the National Assembly because he was a respected academic while in UNN.
According to him , “Professor Nnamchi remains a big inspiration to us and this visit has further endeared us more to him. He took time to lecture us on the duties of the legislature and the relationship between the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The visitors also presented one of the international best selling books titled “The Rules of Everything” authored by Richard Templar to Professor Nnamchi to appreciate him for his quality representations of his people and southeast in general in the House of Representatives.
Prof Nnamchi who took time to interact with the students said he was touched by the kind words used to eulogize him for his modest contributions in the House stressing that he had been energized to work harder not just for the interest of his constituency but for the country in general.
During the visit Prof Nnamchi reiterated his unwavering resolve to serve the people of Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency and the nation at large with distinction, driven by his passion for excellence and innovation in governance.
He told the students to remain committed to their studies adding, “future holds a lot for you if you don’t miss your track. I expect to see some of you become legislators and in other public offices in future”.
