
In a grand ceremony that drew dignitaries from far and wide, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Law on the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah. This prestigious award is in recognition of Governor Mbah’s outstanding leadership style, his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of education in Enugu State, and his tireless efforts to promote the welfare of the people.

The event was attended by a plethora of dignitaries, including the university visitor and President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, who was represented by the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu.
In his remarks, Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of education, identifying it as the best legacy to bequeath to future generations. He assured that his administration would continue to support the UNN in critical areas, such as infrastructure development, research, and innovation, to enhance its capacity for success.
“We are committed to offering the children of Enugu State an education that would make them compete favourably with their contemporaries in the fast-evolving global workplace,” Governor Mbah said.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, noted that the university had achieved the highest ranking in the SCOPUS database for scholarly output among Nigerian universities, with over 7,025 publications from 5,813 authors. He reminded graduating students that education is a lifelong experience that requires continuous learning and adaptation.
“Education is both a starting point and a lifelong experience that you will always need,” Prof. Chigbu said.
Governor Mbah expressed his profound gratitude to the Acting Vice Chancellor, the chairman and members of the governing council, the university senate, and the entire management of the institution for the Doctor of Law award.
Other dignitaries who attended the event included the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Gen. Ike Nwachukwu, and the Chancellor, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, who was represented by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Polycarp Chigbu.
