Infrastructural Development
Hon. Okolo’s administration has prioritized infrastructural development, with a focus on providing essential services such as water supply and road construction. The construction of solar-powered water boreholes in all the communities of Awgu has already benefitted several areas, improving access to clean, potable water and enhancing the quality of life for local residents. Additionally, the administration has embarked on the grading of rural roads across communities within the local government, expected to improve connectivity and accessibility, enhancing economic activities and providing long-term benefits to Ndi Awgu. Notably, the Awgu-Ndeaboh road has been asphalted, significantly improving the transportation network in the area. Furthermore, the administration has launched Project Light Up Awgu L.G.A, aimed at installing about 600 solar lights across the Local Government Area. This initiative is expected to improve night-time security and foster economic activities in the evenings. The administration has also reconstructed the office complex, providing a conducive working environment for council staff and improving the overall aesthetic appeal of the local government headquarters.
Innovative Initiatives
Hon. Okolo has also introduced innovative initiatives aimed at boosting economic development and empowering the youth. The Awgu Smart Farms initiative, inspired by the Smart Schools initiative envisioned by Governor Peter Mbah, is expected to boost agricultural productivity and provide a platform for sustainable farming practices. The Tomorrow Is Here initiative, a vocational and entrepreneurship training program, was launched on December 4, 2024, with the aim of equipping young people with practical skills. This initiative is expected to prepare the youth for success in the modern economy.
Security
The Chairman’s commitment to a secure Awgu Local Government Area is unwavering. The Council under his leadership has been providing logistics support to the local vigilantes to enhance security of lives and properties. Recognizing the importance of safety to development, Hon. Uchenna Okolo is set to launch and equip the Awgu Forest Guard. This initiative will provide the Forest Guard with modern security equipment, ensuring they are well-prepared to combat threats and safeguard local areas.
Transparency and Effective Communication
Hon. Okolo’s administration has emphasized transparency and effective communication, introducing a Monthly Newsletter to report government’s activities and receive feedback from the people. This initiative, unprecedented in the history of Awgu Local Government, has fostered stronger engagement between the government and Ndi Awgu.
Team Building
Hon. Uchenna Okolo has also focused on strengthening the local administration by assembling a capable and dynamic team. He appointed Hon. Nelson Uduji as the Secretary of the Local Government, Hon. Ndubuisi Nwaudeigwe as his Chief of Staff, and other key personnel, ensuring that the leadership team aligns with the vision of the state government, ably led by Governor Peter Mbah.
Budget Presentation
A notable activity within the first 100 days was the presentation of the 2025 Budget Estimate, amounting to 1.8 billion Naira. The budget outlines a comprehensive plan for sustainable economic growth and development, laying the foundation for a prosperous future for Ndi Awgu.
Empowerment of the Youth
Hon. Uchenna Okolo has made significant efforts to empower the youth of Awgu. The Tomorrow Is Here initiative is a testament to his commitment to equipping young people with practical skills.
Festive Season Celebrations
In the spirit of the festive season, Hon. Uchenna Okolo introduced the Governor Peter Mbah Unity Cup, Awgu LGA; a football tournament that brought together communities in Awgu Local Government Area. The festive period climaxed with the Hon. Chairman showering Ndi Awgu with gifts and palliatives, making their Christmas celebration memorable.
