
The Onyima family of Mgbowo, Enugu State, recently gathered on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, to bid a final farewell to their matriarch, Late Mrs. Grace Nwoma Onyima, in a grand burial ceremony that was attended by a plethora of dignitaries from across Nigeria.

The event, which took place at the Onyima’s compound in Mgbowo, was a celebration of Late Mrs. Grace Nwoma Onyima’s life and legacy, with music, dance, and eulogies in her honour. The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including government officials, traditional rulers, and prominent figures from various walks of life.



Honourable Prince Humphrey Onyima, CEO of Leadership Scorecard Magazine, who is also the son of the deceased, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the numerous guests who attended the ceremony to pay their last respects to his mother.



According to Prince Onyima, the burial ceremony was a testament to the impact his mother had on her family and community. “My mother was a pillar of strength and a shining example of kindness, compassion, and generosity,” he said. “Her passing has left a void in our lives, but we take comfort in the knowledge that her legacy will live on through us.”



The ceremony was attended by several notable figures, including His Excellency, Alh. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Resident Communities and IDPs, Hajia Maryam Suleiman.


Other dignitaries in attendance included Prof. Udenta O. Udenta, Founding National Secretary Alliance for Democracy; His Excellency, Capt. Evarest Nnaji (Odengene), former Guber Candidate in Enugu State; and His Royal Majesty, Igwe Cyprian MaduÂabuchi Nevobasi (Ogirishi Mmaku), Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers in Awgu LGA of Enugu State.


Additionally, High Chief Chukwudi Nnaji (Onwa Igwurubeze), President of 9th Holdings, Chairman, ROWE Motor Nigeria; High Chief Friday Emeka Edeh (FACO), Chairman, Castle Majestic Hotel Enugu; and His Royal Highness, Igwe John Azubuike Ibe, Ohabuenyi II, Traditional Ruler of Ekpulambo Mgbowo Autonomous Community in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, were also in attendance.


Furthermore, His Royal Highness, Igwe Gregory Ituma, Onyima II, Traditional Ruler of Ekpulato Mgbowo Autonomous Community in Awgu LGA of Enugu State, and Eze Prof. DCJ Chukwurah, Eze Omelali Mgbowo-lese Ohaire, were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.


Late Mrs. Grace Nwoma Onyima passed away on November 1, 2024, at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. Her burial ceremony was a fitting tribute to a woman who touched the lives of many during her lifetime.


May her gentle soul continue to rest in the Lord’s bosom, Amen.
