GOAL FRENZY: EXECUTIVE COUNCIL TEAM WHIPS LOCAL COUNCIL 5-1 IN ENUGU STATE FUNCTIONARIES FOOTBALL COMPETITION

The 7-man Executive Council football team yesterday defeated the Local Council football team 5-1 in the resumed State Functionaries 2024 annual end-of-year football competition at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

The Executive Council team’s victory was led by Amobi Ezeaku, General Manager of Rangers International Football Club, who scored an impressive 4 goals, with 3 coming in the first half and 1 in the second. The team’s captain, Barrister Lloyd Ikechukwu Ekweremadu, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, also scored a goal.

The Local Council team, which started with 9 players in the first half, added two more players in the second half but was unable to reduce the tally. Obi Obeagu scored the lone goal for the Local Council team.

The match, which was kicked off by the Secretary to the State government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, showcased the skills of Amobi Ezeaku and Commissioner Lloyd Ekweremadu, entertaining the spectators.

The competition continues today, Sunday, January 19, 2025, with the Judiciary football team facing off against the State House Assembly football team at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
