
In a major shake-up, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has dissolved the current Governing Council of the University of Cross River State, effective immediately.

Consequent to the dissolution, Governor Otu has approved the appointment of Professor Francisca Bassey as the new acting Vice Chancellor of the university. Dr. Fidelis Ugbo has also been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor, while Hon. Francis Ettah and Prof. Susan Etim will serve as members of the new Governing Council.
The statement further noted that the full list of the new Governing Council will be released shortly, but the appointments take immediate effect.
Governor Otu’s decision to dissolve the governing council and appoint a new vice chancellor is seen as a bold move to revamp the institution and restore its academic excellence.
The University of Cross River State has faced several challenges in recent years, including infrastructure decay and academic stagnation. With the new appointments, Governor Otu is expected to inject fresh impetus into the institution and reposition it for greatness.
