An officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stationed in Lagos has died under unclear circumstances, the commission has confirmed.

A video circulating online shows the officer’s lifeless body surrounded by onlookers, including police officers, who proceeded to search through his bag.
It was during this search that the officer’s EFCC identity card was found, confirming his affiliation with the agency. The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear, and the EFCC has launched an investigation into the incident.
“Yes, the man was our officer. His death is under investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday,” EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a phone conversation with our correspondent on Monday.
This incident comes just two weeks after another EFCC officer, Assistant Superintendent Aminu Salisu, was shot and killed by a suspected internet fraudster during a raid in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The EFCC has condemned negative narratives surrounding the officer’s death and emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice is served. The commission has urged the public to await the outcome of the investigation and to refrain from spreading unverified information.
