As Enugu State prepares to host the 23rd National Sports Festival in 2026, the state government has intensified its efforts to ensure a successful and memorable event. In a significant move, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah recently inspected the Awgu Games Village, a key venue for the festival, as part of the state’s preparations.

The visit, which took place on 3rd of February, 2025, was welcomed by the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo.

Represented by the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Hon. Stanley Uchenna Ezediuto, PhD, Okolo reaffirmed the council’s commitment to sports development, emphasizing its role in youth empowerment and economic growth.

“We are committed to supporting the state government’s efforts to develop sports in Enugu State,” Okolo said. “We believe that sports have the power to transform lives and communities, and we are eager to play our part in making this vision a reality.”

The Enugu State Government has identified sports as a key sector for economic transformation, and has been investing heavily in modern sports facilities and programs. The Awgu Games Village, which is currently undergoing extensive upgrades, is expected to be one of the main venues for the festival.

Governor Mbah’s administration has been commended for its commitment to grassroots development and youth empowerment. The governor’s visit to Awgu Games Village is seen as a demonstration of his administration’s determination to leave a lasting legacy in the sports sector.
